The state government in Patna on Thursday signed an agreement with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to construct a 1980 megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in Nabinagar in Auragabad district at the cost of Rs. 9,000 crore.

The agreement was signed between the NTPC and Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB in the presence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, state Energy Minister Vijendra Yadav, NTPC Managing Director T. Sankaralingam and a number of senior BSEB and NTPC officials.

Work on the ambitious power project would begin around April this year and the plant would be able to generate 660 MW of power by 2012, officials said.

The project to be named Bihar Bijli Company (BBC) is located near Barem, Harcharnpur,, about 50 km from Aurangabad.
