CM Appeals to Youths to Remain Calm
Patna: February 14, 2008
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a meeting with the NDA workers in Patna on Thursday, asked the youths of Bihar not to get emotionally perturbed by what has been happening in Maharashtra for last couple of weeks saying any negative or violent reaction by Biharis would mean a win for the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray and his ilk.
Without mentioning Thackeray's name, the Chief Minister said such people were actually hoping to get violent reactions from the people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. "This would make their job of spreading hatred much easier and this is exactly what they are wishing for," Kumar said adding people should be guided by their head and their emotions.
The Chief Minister also talked with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president and Union Steel and Fertilizer Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to come up with an all-party program to restore unity in Bihar and Maharashtra.
"We must not forget that most of the Maharashtrians do not feel the way some segregationists feel. People of Maharashtra are intelligent and open-minded and they have openly denounced the recent attacks on Biharis in their state," Kumar said.
The Chief Minister also condemned the burning of the Bihar Governor's effigy in Patna on Wednesday saying such acts reflected bad on Bihar and the youths should refrain from doing anything that may further tarnish the image of the state.
