Red Alert Issued over President Visit to Bihar

Patna: February 14, 2008

With violence against Biharis in Maharashtra in the backdrop, the state government stepped up security in Gaya and Patna a day before the arrival of President Pratibha Patil who arrives in Patna on a two-day trip on Friday.

Patil will be welcomed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar when her plane arrives at the Gaya Airport at 11:05 am. ADG (Law and Order) Anil Kumar Sinha and regional IG Rajyawardhan Sharma have been camping in Gaya since yesterday to monitor security arrangement for the safe visit of the President.

She would then leave for Nalanda to see the remains of ancient Nalanda University. From there, Patil would return to Bodh Gaya to pay her respect to Lord Buddha at Bodh Gaya. She would also inaugurate a cultural function at the university in Gaya after which she would come to Patna.

On Saturday, the President would visit Shanti Stupa in Vaishali and then attend the Kanya-Vivah function at S. K. Memorial Hall.

At 4:00 pm, Patil would visit the Mahavir Cancer Institute in Phulwari to inaugurate the hypothermia ward of the hospital.

Patil would visit the Sikh Gurudwara in Patna City before leaving for New Delhi in the evening.

A red alert has been issued in all areas where the President is scheduled to visit. On Thursday, security officials also conducted a complete dress rehearsal in Patna to ensure everything goes as planned during the entire period of stay of Mrs. Patil.
