Bihar Leaders Demand Arrest of Raj Thackeray

Patna: February 16, 2008

Seven members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Saturday handed over a memo the President of India Mrs. Pratibha Patil demanding arrest and a trial against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray on charges of anti-national activities in the wake of recent attacks at the behest of the Sena chief on Biharis and the people of Uttar Pradesh living in Maharashtra.

"Such people filled with hate against their fellow citizens should not only be barred from running from public positions, they should be arrested and locked up in jails for the rest of their lives," said the delegate.

This is a free country and everyone has complete freedom to live and earn wherever and whenever one pleases without fear of being intimidated or killed as has been happening in Assam and now in Maharashtra. This must stop and perpetrators of regional or communal discords must be treated as anti-national forces, the delegate told the President.

"The actions of the MNS has not only damaged the reputation of Maharashtra, it has tarnished the image of India as a nation in the eyes of the world," they said.

The memo was signed by legislators Kishore Kumar Munna, Gyanendra Singh, Prem Kumar Mani, Satyadeo Narayan Arya, Shivprassana Yadav, Congress leader Azami Bari, and JD-U minority cell leader Mohsin Ali Masoomi, reports said.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, Raj Thackeray, in an interview in a Marathi daily, continued to spew venom against Biharis and other North Indians.

"They will not be allowed to celebrate their festivals in Maharashtra and if they cannot understand the language of polite requests, we will not hesitate in using force against them," the man who is getting very close to being officially categorized as a domestic terrorist said in his interview.
