Alleged Thief Lynched in Vaishali District

Vaishali: February 16, 2008

Just hours after the President of India left the district after paying her tribute to Lord Mahavir at his sanctuary in Vaishali district, an angry mob in Shahadullapur village under Lalganj police station caught hold of an alleged thief and beat him to death bringing back the memories of the notorious Dhelphorwa lynching case in which 10 persons of the Nat community were lynched last September.

The body of the victim was taken away by the police and sent to Hajipur for an autopsy.

A case of murder has been filed against four unidentified assailants.

As reported, four to five people on late Saturday night broke into the house of one Ramdeo Chowdhary with the intention to commit burglary. The noise, however, woke up the house inmates who started screaming for help. Within minutes, several villagers surrounded the house and attacked the robbers. While most thieves managed to escape in the cover of the darkness, one man whose identity remains unascertained was caught by mob and beaten to death.
