After Patil; Bihar Ready to Host Mauritius PM
Patna: February 17, 2008
Patna, after hosting a two-day visit of India's President Pratibha Patil, switched gear on Sunday to host yet another high-profile guest in Bihar, this time the Prime Minister of Mauritius Naveenchandra Ramgoolaam who arrives in the state capital on Monday at 12:20 pm.
With security still extremely tight, the district administration conducted a dress rehearsal during the weekend to ensure the Mauritius PM's visit to Siwan and Harigaon, the ancestral home of his father and the first PM of Mauritius Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam, remains as safe and smooth as possible.
The PM would be received by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and several of his cabinet members. He will address a gathering at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall where a short film on the life and accomplishments of his father will also be shown.
He will then participate in a cultural program at the Gandhi Maidan where artists from Mauritius would perform with Bihar's very own Sharda Sinha and Manoj Tiwari Mridul.
On Tuesday, the PM would take a government helicopter to go to Siwan where he will offer his prayers at a local Hanuman temple before leaving for Harigaon village, the native place of his ancestors before they decided to get on a ship and move to Mauritius as indentured laborers.
Ramgoolam will return to Patna the same day and then visit Nalanda and Gaya on Wednesday. He will leave for Delhi the same day at 3:00 pm.
