Lalu is Lying on Borrowing Issue: Modi
Patna: February 17, 2008
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Sunday shot back at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav for claiming that he or Rabri Devi never borrowed money from outside sources for any project in Bihar.
Calling out his bluff with the aid of records collected from the RJD days, Modi said Lalu was lying because during his regime, the state borrowed money to the tune of Rs. 24,642.12 crore and all one had to do was to check out the records to confirm whether the Railway Minister was lying on not.
"Compared to the RJD government, the NDA government has raised much less in loans from the outside sources including the Central government," Modi said.
"As a Central Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav must know that the Center has long stopped granting loans to the state government as a result of which the Nitish government had to raise funds from outside sources to complete various projects. Furthermore, the RJD government as borrowing money to pay off wages and pensions of the government employees whereas the NDA government borrows money only to complete developmental projects already underway in the state," the Deputy Chief Minister said.
