People Fed-up with Filth in Naya Tola Protest
Patna: February 26, 2008
Angry people on Ramna Road near Naya Tola in Patna on Tuesday blocked the road and burnt tires after rain and sewage water spilled on the road making it nearly impossible to walk or drive without having to wade through the stinking garbage.
Citizens complained that despite their repeated complaints with the Patna Municipal Corporation, the local administration failed to resolve the problem leaving them with no choice but to resort to protest in public places.
"Our minister (Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey) talks about turning Patna into Paris and things like that but the ground reality in Bihar can be seen at Naya Tola that is clearly indicative of this government's failure," said Rajaram Paswan, the owner of a small shop on Ramna Road.
The situation is particularly pathetic in view of the fact that it had not rained in Patna in last few days, yet the underground sewage continues to spill trash out on the street making it very difficult for children and women who live in this area, said Paswan.
