MLA Blames a Flat Tire for Breaking his Promise

Patna: February 27, 2008

BJP MLA Rameshwar Chaurasia who arrived at Bihar Assembly last Monday on a bike in a symbolic gesture of protest against rising prices of petroleum products while promising to continue to use the bike for the entire session of the Assembly, on Wednesday arrived on a motorcycle raising some question about his vow.

When confronted by the reporters who were quick to remind Chaurasia of his promise, the legislator said that he had to use the motorcycle because he had a flat tire on his bike.

"When I went for my daily stroll this morning, I left my bike outside the park. Upon my return I found one of my tires were flat forcing me to take my motorcycle to the State Assembly," Chaurasia said.

He also defended his failure to use a helmet saying he was not riding his bike on Patna's streets and would not ride his motorcycle on the streets without his helmet.

"You should not try to make too much out of it," the legislator said while promising to use his bike from now on while also ensuring he has a spare bike at his home to avoid repetition of today's incident.
