Slogan-Shouting Goes Unabated at Bihar Assembly
Patna: February 27, 2008
Members of the opposition parties led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi once again disrupted the proceedings of the Bihar Assembly on Wednesday and staged a walk out accusing the government of 'all talks and no substance'.
The protest started before the opposition leaders even entered the Assembly building. Carrying placards and shouting slogans, the RJD leaders said the supporters of the rival parties were being eliminated systematically by the ruling parties and crime in the state capital was reaching a new height with not a day passing by when someone was not being murdered or robbed.
"Activists from the opposing parties are being killed in a well-concerted plan hatched by the ruling parties and the explanation they gave about the murder of Bhagalpur RJD leader Laxmikant Yadav is simply not acceptable," the leaders of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly Rabri Devi said on Wednesday adding only a CBI enquiry could get to the fact in the killing of Yadav.
As reported earlier, the police and even the son of the victim have said that Yadav was killed by a group of people over a long land dispute in Bhagalpur district.
Unleashing a barrage of tirade, the RJD leaders accused the ruling parties of deceiving the people of Bihar, not making any headway in the area of power supply and drinking water and letting the bureaucracy run over the state while encouraging corruption in all government offices.
The opposition leaders also took exceptions to the Governor's speech saying he left out many important issues that concerns Bihar including the plights of uncommitted teachers, implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, release of the BPL list, and the safety of Biharis in Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, however, slammed the opposition for making uncharitable remarks against Governor R. S. Gavai.
"Such behavior only adds fuel to the fire and does not in any way helps the cause of Bihar. The opposition's attitude against the Governor was so shameful that I had to apologize to him on behalf of the RJD leaders," Kumar said.
The Chief Minister also appealed to the Center to impose Article 365 on Maharashtra government for its failure to protect people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the light of violence perpetrated against them by Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists.
