Students Celebrate Center's Nod for an IIT in Bihar

Patna: February 29, 2008

Students in Patna under the banner of Chhatra Janata Dal (U) on Friday celebrated the decision of the Union government to make provision for an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Bihar after years of going back and forth on the demand by a host of Bihar leaders.

Outside the Patna University main gate, students danced and played with colored powder and credited Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of mounting a successful lobby for an IIT in the state.

Earlier, Central Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday during his 2008-09 general budget in the Parliament, put an end to all speculation when he said three new IITs would be set up under the new budget in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
