Patna: January 2, 2008
Maoist ultras, once again establishing that the government machinery was no match to their power and organizational skills, gunned down four Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) jawans under Kharagpur police station in Munger district and stole 3 police rifles and an AK-47 assault rifle on the first day of the 2008, officials in Patna confirmed.
The latest attack came near the Rishi Kund where just a few days ago Naxalites had kidnapped 11 school children who were enjoying a day out with their teachers before releasing them due to prompt police actions.
As reported, more than a hundred heavily armed Maoists surrounded the SAP team consisting of four jawans and the station in-charge of Bariarpur police station Suresh Prasad and opened indiscriminate firing at them killing all four jawans though Prasad managed to escape.
Before leaving, the Naxalites stole their rifles and took their driver hostage. He, however, was later released after receiving serious beating from them, officials said.
A massive combing operation has been launched to apprehend the ultras.
Victims were identified as Dinesh Yadav, Shaukat Ali, Arvind Kumar, and Navin Thakur.
The government has announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each to the family members of the victims.
