Bihar Legislative Clerk Reported Abducted
Patna: January 5, 2008
The family members of Akhilesh Singh filed a case of abduction after the 37-year old clerk at the Bihar Legislative Council failed to return home in Chandmari area under Kankarbagh police station on Saturday after leaving for somewhere on his motorcycle on late Friday evening.
Holding his picture for the media, Singh's brother said Akhilesh left for somewhere on his motorcycle on Friday night. However, when his wife tried to call him on his cell phone, it appeared to have been turned off.
On Saturday, his Hero Honda motorcycle was recovered from a water-filled ditch on New By-pass Road indicating Singh might indeed have been abducted.
A police dog squad was brought at the scene where the motorcycle was found but that failed to provide any clue in the case, Sachivalaya DSP Sridhar Mandal said adding a massive search has been launched to recover the missing clerk.
Reports said Singh, an active supporter of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), was also involved in lending money at high interest rates and that could have something to do with his sudden disappearance.
RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav, who visited the house of the victim, accused the Nitish government of failing to check crime in the state and allowing criminals to take over the city.
