Justice Rajesh Balia Sworn in as New Chief Justice of Patna High Court

Rajasthan High Court judge Rajesh Balia, on Saturday, was sworn in by Bihar Governor R. S. Gavai as the Patna High Court's new Chief Justice at a modest ceremony at the Raj Bhawan.

Justice Balia's tenure, however, ends on March 3 of this year when he is scheduled to retire.

Before the administration of the oath, Chief Secretary R.J. M. Pillai read Balia's appointment letter issued by President of India Pratibha Patil.

The event was attended the family members of the new Chief Justice, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, nearly all the judges of Patna High Court, Bihar Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary, state Attorney General P. K. Shahi, and a number senior advocates, retired justices, and state officials.

Born on March 3, 1946 and a graduate of Jodhpur University, Balia would be 32nd Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
