Opposition against PU VC Intensifies

Patna: January 9, 2008

Anti-Patna University Vice Chancellor feeling is brewing fast in the university corridor as several faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students of the university met with the Governor and PU Chancellor R. S. Gavai on Wednesday and demanded removal of Dr. Y. C. Simadri accusing him of failing on all fronts while acting in a very dictatorial manner.

A delegate of the Patna University Teachers' Association (PUTA) made up of several teachers including the President of the association Dr. U. K. Sinha, General Secretary Dr. Randhir Kumar Singh, and Patna Women's College Principal Dr. Doris D'Souja met with the Governor and handed over a memo listing 24 of the charges against the Vice Chancellor.

Among the charges were Simadri's autocratic way of functioning, his absence from the university campus, spending the university fund on renovating his own bungalow and his inability to communicate properly in Hindi or English.

Meanwhile, a separate delegate of students under the banner of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and the members of Patna University Employees Association also met with the Governor and handed over their memos outlining their complaints against the PU Vice Chancellor.
