Photo by Shashi UttamRural Bank employees under the banner of Joint Forum of Gramin Bank Union launched a two-day strike in the nation disrupting all banking transactions causing a huge backlog in the clearance of checks and demand deposits affecting crores of rupees.

With over 70,000 of Gramin Bank employees from an estimated 14,500 branches spread across the country staying away from work, the strike was deemed a 'complete success' as described by the leader of the All India Gramin Bank Employees Officers' Association D. N. Trivedi.

The strike was called to press for their demands that included rights and privileges similar to those available in the nationalized banks.
