Soldier's Body Arrives in Patna; Cremated

The body of Indian army jawan and a member of the Indo-Tibetan Border Force Manoj Kumar Singh who was killed in the line of duty in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan on January 3 arrived at his residence in Patna City on Thursday amidst crying and wailing by the family members, neighbors, and friends.
Thousands of people chanting patriotic slogans gathered outside the house under Malsalami police station in Patna City where the body of the martyr was brought more than a week after he sacrificed his life for his country.
Heavy snow in the Afghan region caused the delay in bringing his body home, officials in Patna said.
Singh was cremated at the Bans Ghat in the presence of thousands of his admirers.
A suicide bomber, on January 3, ambushed a convoy of the Border Roads Organization, engaged in constructing the Zaranj Delaram Road. The blast killed Manoj instantly while another Indian and a member of the elite Indo-Tibetan Border Force Desha Singh died of his injuries two days later.
Singh is survived by his parents, wife, and three young children.
Earlier, an Indian Airlines aircraft brought the body of Singh to Patna Airport where several senior police officials and leaders including the Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav paid their tribute to the martyred soldier.
