Nitish Directs Officials not to Remove Chapter on Former CMs

Patna: January 10, 2008

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said he would use his power to ensure the chapter on the lives of former Chief Ministers Bhola Paswan Shastri and Karpoori Thakur is not deleted from the middle school Hindi text book though he clearly stayed away from mentioning the name of former Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav whose name also appears in the same chapter.

"Students of Bihar must know about the struggles and lives of Shastri and Thakur and their invaluable contributions towards the society. The chapter is not going to be deleted as reported in the media," Kumar said admitting it was in the process of being modified.

"I have instructed Education Minister Brishan Patel to ensure the biography of Shastri and Thakur is not removed from the 8th-grade text book," he said.

Meanwhile, the dalit cell of the RJD on Friday burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at Dak Bungalow crossing threatening to launch a statewide stir if the name of their hero and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is removed from the chapter.
