LJP Leader Hails Decision to Remove Lalu Reference from Text Book

Patna: January 11, 2008

Photo by Shashi UttamLok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Dr. Ranjan Yadav on Friday congratulated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for deciding to remove the chapter on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav saying the former Chief Minister was responsible for destroying Bihar in each sense and did not deserve any honor in the text books.

"The entire Lalu era was marred with scandals and corruption that earned him several trips to jail. He single-handedly destroyed the state by allowing criminals and corrupt bureaucrats to commit crimes and plunder at his will. This man does not deserve any honor in the text books because it would set a very bad example for the children who would by studying those books," Yadav said.

"Imagine children learning about 'Bhoora Baal Saaf Karo' and 'Lathi Chalawan Tel Pilawan' because that is the true legacy of Lalu Prasad Yadav," Ranjan Yadav said adding it was the RJD chief who allowed Bihar to be split into two halves resulting in the creation of Jharkhand state.

The former Lalu friend said that the Nitish administration did a huge favor to the children of Bihar by ordering the removal of Lalu's reference from the Class VIII Hindi text book.

The chapter, that also includes brief biographies of former Chief Ministers Bhola Paswan Shastri and Karpoori Thakur, was written in 1993 by Hindi writer Harivansh Narain, a Lalu protege, and was recommended by an editorial board of the Bihar State Text Book Corporation that included RJD leader Ramvachan Rai as one of its member.

Earlier, the Nitish government ordered the removal of all references of the RJD chief from the text book while leaving the part involving Shastri and Thakur untouched.

The move has caused widespread dissent in the Lalu camp who burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister in protest a couple of days ago.
