RJD Leaders Hint at Misappropriation in Power Board

Patna: January 13, 2008

Shyam Rajak and Shakeel Ahmed Khan. Photo by Shashi UttamRashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Shyam Rajak and Shakeel Ahmed Khan, at a press conference at party office in Patna on Sunday, accused the Nitish-led NDA government in Bihar for selling electricity worth over Rs. 40 crore each month to Mumbai in a deal struck through the Power Trading Corporation.

"For the last three months, the Bihar State Electricity Board has been selling power to Mumbai from Pusauli Supergrid in Bihar indicating a massive irregularity in its finances," Rajak who was the Power Minister during the previous Rabri government, said while demanding sealing of all documents pertaining to the sale and a full investigation into the charges.

The two RJD leaders said that while was going through acute power shortage, the government, through underhanded dealing, was selling electricity to other states.

"During the RJD rule, we never allowed the entire state capital to go dark at the same time in spite of the fact that the Patna Electricity Supply Undertaking was giving only 220 to 225 MW to the city. Now Patna is getting between 320 and 325 MW and yet the whole city is covered in darkness," the former Power Minister said.

Khan said that Power Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav was uttering nonsense against the UPA government and was trying to pass the blame on to the former RJD government to cover up his own failure.
