Patna: January 15, 2008

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar while inaugurating the 3-day 9th Buddha Festival at the Kalchakra Maidan in Bodh Gaya on Tuesday said that Bodh Gaya, through its immense tourism potential, was the window of opportunity for the prosperity of Bihar that was still bleeding from the bifurcation of the state.

"Besides Bodh Gaya, Bihar has been blessed with other historical sites including Nalanda, Vaishali, and Rajgir and with proper planning and development, we can turn this state around in terms of economic prosperity," Kumar said in his inaugural speech.

The Chief Minister also talked about increasing the length of the runway of Gaya Airport to meet the demand of the growing traffic from countries like Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and other Buddhist countries.

Others who also spoke on the occasion included Road Construction and Tourism Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Youth and Cultural Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, PHED Minister Dr. Prem Kumar and tourism department chief secretary Rashmi Verma.
