Two more people were killed and scores injured on the second day of the violence that erupted in Kahalgaon town after a highly-emotionally charged clashed with the police over power situation in Bihar

On Saturday, the protestors once again clashed with the police officials in Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district leading the police to open several rounds of fire resulting in the death of two more protestors raising the number of casualties to four in past two days.

As reported, hundreds of protestors, enraged by the death of two protestors on Friday, set a nursing home on fire, destroyed several vehicles, and clashed with police attacking them with stones and bricks.

The police in retaliation opened fire on the mob killing two people on the spot.

Senior police officials including Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Abhayanand have rushed to Kahalgaon to ensure peace is restored and further violence is contained.

As reported before, the Nitish government and the UPA government at the Center have been engaged in a fierce battle of words over power situation in Bihar with each accusing the other for the current energy quandary.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while condemning the police firing in Kahalgaon, ordered suspension of the Kahalgaon Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and SDO. He also ordered a full enquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile, members of various parties including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the CPI-M, burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister and handed over a memo to the Governor demanding a full probe into the police firing.
