CM Wants High Court Probe Kahalgaon Firing
Patna: January 20, 2008
With the opposition up in arms against the police firing in Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district that left 4 persons dead, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday said he would ask the Patna High Court to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
"We know that some anti-social elements backed by certain political parties are in Kahalgaon to flare communal tension in the region in the name of power situation in Bhagalpur. However, we want them to know that we are monitoring the situation very closely and such forces would be crushed before they inflict further damage to the community," Kumar said adding Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and ADG Abhayanand along with other senior officials were camping in the district to keep an eye on any development.
Once again blaming the UPA government at the Center, the Chief Minister said that it was completely untrue to say that the state government was responsible for poor power situation in Bihar.
"We are paying the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in advance so the opposition leaders cannot say that the power situation in Bihar is caused by non-payment by the state government," he said.
The Chief Minister said that he was awaiting a full report from the Home Secretary and based on that report, further action would be taken against erring officials or those who are found to be the troublemakers in the area.
Ridiculing the opposition's burning of his effigy over power situation in Bihar, Kumar said that if Bihar's power problem could be solved by doing so, the NDA was more than willing to provide them with more hays and kerosene to burn more of his effigies. "RJD leaders who are now talking about power problem in Bihar should first tell the people of the power condition during their 15 years of rule," he said.
