Post Office Looted in Munger; Home Guard Jawans Suspended

Patna: January 27, 2008

Professional burglars in Munger on early Sunday morning raided a post office near the Bhagat Singh roundabout and stole cash and stamps worth over Rs. 27 lakh leading to the suspension of 10 Home Guard jawans who were on duty when the crime was committed, officials in Munger said.

Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Shalin said that all the Home Guard jawans were sleeping when the burglars broke into the post office and emptied the safe containing cash and government documents.

The operation was conducted so quickly and smoothly that the guards outside the building did not get any inkling of the crime being committed.

All ten guards were put under suspension and were being interrogated to determine if they played any active role in the robbery, the SP said.
