Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, while attending the Urdu Day in honor of former Speaker of the Bihar Assembly late Ghulam Sarwar at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna on Thursday tried to win back some of the Muslim support saying it was during the RJD regime that Sarwar became the Assembly Speaker and Jabir Hussain became the Speaker of the state Legislative Council.
"Late Sarwar was a true leader of the Dalits and backwards and served the state selflessly until his death. He was nonchalant and carefree and always spoke from his heart," Yadav said while touting his policies to empower the Muslim community in Bihar including the formation of the Minority Welfare Commission.
Taking a stab at the Nitish-led NDA government in Bihar, Yadav said that he would 'change the face of Bihar through railway projects only if the state administration could provide him lands needed for various such schemes'.
Among others who participated in the Thursday event included legislator Ghulam Gaus, former Minister Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Iliyas Hussain, Yunus Lohia, MP Ram Kripal Yadav, and Central Minister Jai Prakash Yadav.
