Jewelry Shops Burglarized in Digha

Patna: January 28, 2008

Armed criminals under Digha police station in Patna at the wee hours on Monday invaded two jewelry shops and escaped with over Rs. 4.5 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewelries after taking two security guards hostage, the police said.

According to the police report, criminals around 3:00 am took two guards of the main market hostage. After tying them with ropes, the criminals broke the shutters of Pappu Jewelers and Ashok Jewelers and emptied its valuables before an alarm could be raised..

Passers-by in the area later freed the two guards and informed the police about the robbery.

Officials from Digha and Rajiv Nagar police stations rushed to the crime site and conducted a forensic investigation of the two shops. The police found a shirt left behind by the criminals while also collecting several fingerprints from the crime scene.

Raids are being conducted to arrest the criminals.
