CBI Inspector Arrested while Taking Bribe

Patna: January 29, 2008

CBI sleuths from Delhi on Tuesday nabbed a member of their own fraternity when they caught Praveen Kumar, a CBI inspector based in Patna, while taking Rs. 50,000 in bribe from the manager of United Commercial Bank, Giddhaur branch, H. S. Thakur.

According to the report, Thakur had notified the CBI Delhi about Kumar's repeated attempt to extort Rs. 50,000 from the bank on one pretext or other.

On Tuesday, a team of CBI officials set up a trap and lured Kumar to come to a hotel on Frazer Road. After waiting for nearly five hours, Kumar arrived at the hotel on a scooter at around 9:00 pm and accepted Rs. 50,000 in cash from Thakur.

As soon as the money exchanged hands, officials from Delhi jumped into action and arrested Kumar with cash still in his hand.

Officials continue to interrogate Kumar who, they said, may have been involved in many other bribery cases in the state.
