No Arrest in Tender War Shooting

Patna: January 29, 2008

More than 24 hours since two youths were gunned down in Patna in the ongoing war of attrition between rival tender mafia gangs, the police are yet to make any arrest in the case even as the administration ordered beefing up of the security both inside and outside of the Water Resources building in Anisabad that has literally become the unofficial hangout of many shady characters.

"We are continuing to interrogate Pankaj, the driver of the Scorpio vehicle that was used by the criminals as their getaway car after the shooting," said Sachivalaya DSP Sridhar Mandal adding so far his statement had been evasive and shifty.

Meanwhile, the second person to die in the shooting was identified as Abhay Kumar, the son of Onkarnath Singh, an Uttar Pradesh native, posted in Begusarai.

Abhay had come to Patna to do his MBA and was staying at a private lodge on Boring Canal Road.

Attempts are also being made to apprehend the alleged gunman who was identified as Surajbhan, a.k.a. Commando, a notorious criminal who managed to escape after the shooting.
