Patna Neurosurgeon Murdered in Danapur

Patna: July 1, 2008

During an armed robbery in Danapur area under Khagaul police station on Tuesday, criminals fatally stabbed Patna neurosurgeon Dr. Ajay Kumar Sinha and escaped with valuables and cash to the tune of several lakh rupees.

The incident occurred at the wee hours on Tuesday when other members of the family including Dr. Sinha's mother and younger brother Pappu were asleep in other rooms.

Dr. Sinha's wife Sujata Sinha, a doctor in the Indian Railways in Danapur, was away visiting her parents in Lucknow, report said.

According to the police report, Pappu, who is said to be mentally challenged, told the house maid in the morning that something was wrong with his brother who was lying on the floor in his room.

When the maid checked on the doctor, she found him dead with blood coming out of his face.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar, City SP Anwar Hussain, Danapur ASP Nishant Tiwari and other officials rushed to Sinha's house. Attempts to revive the victim proved futile and Dr. Sinha was declared dead before being taken to a hospital.

Authorities believe the crime was committed in connivance with the family servant Mantu who has been missing since last night.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it appeared the criminals first stabbed the doctor on his face and then covered him with a pillow until he quit breathing, the police said.

Attempts are being made to locate the servant and other persons involved in the crime, they said.
