Surajbhan Files Appeal in Patna High Court
Patna: July 1, 2008
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MP Surajbhan Singh on Tuesday appealed his conviction in the 1992 killing of Rami Singh in the Patna High Court insisting he was wrongly convicted in the case and was a victim of a widespread conspiracy hatched by his political opponents.
Seeking bail and eventually full exoneration in the case, the MP's lawyers filed papers with the Patna High Court maintaining their client was innocent and the Fast Track court in Begusarai botched the entire trial by ignoring some key testimony of a number of witnesses.
As reported before, a Begusarai Fast Track court on June 24 found the MP from Ballia, and two others guilty in the killing of Rami Singh, a farmer who was shot to death in Begusarai district in January 1992 over a land dispute.
A day later, the same court spared their lives and handed life imprisonment to all three in the case.
