PU Students Protest outside VC's Residence

Patna: July 3, 2008

Hundreds of angry students on Thursday demonstrated outside Vice Chancellor Shyam Lal's residence demanding from him to wake up from his deep slumber' and take actions to salvage the reputation of the university.

"The entire education scenario in Patna University is going downhill but the VC continues to act as if everything was fine when more than 18,000 students are waiting for their results and the degrees for months," the protestors said.

With no response from the VC, the students, breaking the security cordon, climbed up the fence and entered the campus demanding to hold a talk with him. After a standoff of nearly two hours, security officials talked the students into retreating and thus avoiding a face-off that could have further embarrassed the Vice Chancellor.

The protest was jointly organized by various students' organizations including the National Students Union of India and the students' wings of the Janata Dal (U) and the Nationalist Congress Party.
