Two Suicides within Hours of Each Other in the Same Locality

Patna: July 17, 2008

In a shocking incident, the wife of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Anandpuri locality under Sri Krishna Puri police station on Thursday shot herself to death in an apparent suicide bid after allegedly battling depression for a long time.

Sati Devi, age 55, who lived in the Vaishnavi Plaza Apartments with her youngest son and husband, reportedly took the service revolver of her husband Govind Deo Upadhyaya to the bathroom and shot herself in the earlobe early Thursday morning.

She died instantly, the police said.

Her body was sent to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for an autopsy, Sachivalaya DSP Sridhar Mandal said adding an investigation has been initiated to confirm the claims of depression.

Besides her husband, Sati Devi leaves behind four sons with only the youngest living with the parents.

In an unrelated incident, also taking place in the Anandpuri locality, a 23-year old man killed himself after jumping from the fourth floor of the Pataliputra Residency Apartment.

The police have recovered a suicide note from his pocket indicating he was being blackmailed by a married woman with whom he was having an illicit affair.

His body was also taken to the PMCH for a post mortem.
