Patna: July 31, 2008
Additional Director General (ADG) of Police and a 1974-batch IPS officer Devki Nandan Gautam was made the state's 20th Director General of Police (DGP) following the retirement of Shivchandra Jha on Thursday.
ADG (Law and Order) Anil Sinha will also temporarily act as the ADG (Police Headquarters) until a permanent officer is appointed to the post, officials said.
Gautam, who has a reputation of being tough cop, is also known for his clean, untarnished image.
Minutes after assuming the charge as the state's new DGP, Gautam issued a directive to all police stations to start performing or face the music.
"The police must be sympathetic to the concerns of all citizens and give fair hearing to their complaints. Failing to do so would result in punitive actions," the DGP said adding the Chief Minister had entrusted him with such responsibility and he has all the intention to live up to the people's expectations.
