Government Officer Arrested while accepting Bribe

Patna: July 31, 2008

Vigilance Bureau officials in Patna on Thursday caused a panic at the Secretariat building – the den of the 'Babus' – when they caught Dinesh Kumar Singh, an officer in the Personal Claim Fund of the Finance Department, accepting bribe from a retired assistant engineer.

As reported, Radha Mohan Singh, a retired assistant engineer filed a complaint with the State Vigilance Bureau against Dinesh Kumar Singh who, he said, was demanding a sum of Rs. 2,000 in bribe to move forward files related to Assured Career Progression (ACP).

A special task force led by Vigilance DSP Maharaja Kanishk Kumar, in a well-executed plan, arrived at the Secretariat and waited for the right moment. As soon as the 'Bada Babu' took Rs. 1,600 in exchange for moving the engineer's file from one dusty table to another, Vigilance officials sprang into action and arrested Dinesh Kumar Singh.

The police also searched his entire office and seized several documents that could incriminate the Babu in a number of corruption cases.

After being produced before a Special Vigilance Judge, Singh was sent to the Beur Jail in judicial custody.
