NCP Leader Blasts NDA; Calls Nitish an Autocrat
Patna: June 30, 2008
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state president Upendra Kushwaha at a party dharna at the Income Tax roundabout in Patna on Monday blasted the NDA administration in Bihar describing it a government 'gone out of control' with obvious attempts to crush the voice of the opposition.
"When it comes to other people's case, the Chief Minister is of the opinion that the 'law will take its own course' but when the government itself is in the wrong box, any attempt to highlight its failure is met with severe resistance," Kushwaha said.
"This is dictatorship, plain and simple. Anyone, be it leaders from the opposition camps or the media persons, the government resorts to strong arm-twisting tactics in an attempt to crush the voice of dissent," he said.
The NCP leader was specifically talking about the clash between his party workers and the Janata Dal (U) activists when the latter thwarted the former's attempt to burn an effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a protest at the Income Tax roundabout in Patna nearly a week ago.
Kushwaha said his party would not be intimidated by such fear tactics of the Chief Minister and his supporters and would continue to highlight its failure and shortcomings without fear of intimidation.
