PU Employees' Strike to Continue
Patna: June 30, 2008
Patna University employees who had been on strike since early this month, staged a dharna on Monday and declined to withdraw their stir saying until their demands were met unconditionally, the strike would continue indefinitely despite the fact that the university had declared their agitation illegal.
Talking to the media reporters, Patna University Employees' Association general secretary Vinod Mishra said the university officials had displayed tremendous lack of concern towards their plight and their demands and it was evident that the Vice Chancellor was in no hurry to bring an end to this deadlock.
Meanwhile, PU officials who on Saturday declared the strike illegal in view of the widespread disruption caused by it, said they would not negotiate with the striking employees who were so consumed by their own political agenda that the interests of the students was nowhere on their radar screen.
Sources, however, said some high-powered university officials were secretly holding talks with some of the union leaders and attempts were being made to bring the warring factions to a negotiation table that could result in the end of the strike much sooner than later.
