Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while unveiling the life-size statue of Loknayak Jai Prakash Narain at Rajvanshi Nagar Hospital in Patna on Saturday said the government would help develop the medical facility as a trauma center that would act as one of the major lifelines in treating patients from accidents and other unexpected medical emergencies.

Kumar, with the unveiling of the statue, also inaugurated the outpatient departments for bones and muscle related injuries, medical advice, and operating facilities for non-life-threatening contingencies.

"This facility and similar such provisions in other parts of the state are going to ease burden on the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) resulting in better patient care in Bihar hospitals and nursing homes," the Chief Minister said.

Kumar also lauded the government's efforts in improving health care in the state saying the number of patients at first aid centers in Bihar at the time the NDA wrestled power from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was 49 per month.

"This number has increased to 4,500 as per a latest survey conducted by the Health Department," said the Chief Minister.

State Health Minister Chandramohan Rai, in his speech, said there had been a remarkable rise in people's trust in government health care facilities since the change of power in the state a little over two years ago.

Attempts are also being made to upgrade health care centers in Kankarbagh, Gardener Road, Rajendra Nagar, and Gardanibagh, Rai said.

Other leaders who were present on the occasion included Building Construction Minister Monazir Hasan, legislator Nitin Navin, Revenue Minister, Ramnath Thakur, Health Secretary Deepak Kumar, PMCH Superintendent O. P. Chowdhary, former directors of Institute of Orthopedics Sr. A. K. Singh and Dr. H. N. Diwakar.
