Police Ask Banks to Install Surveillance Systems

Patna: March 2, 2008

The police in Patna have advised all major banks in the state capital to consider installing high-tech surveillance system both inside and outside of the bank premises in an attempt to discourage robberies and facilitate quick apprehension of the criminals who have stepped up targeting banks in the district since last few weeks.

Rajvardhan Sharma, IG, said there had been a marked increase in criminal incidents involving banks in and around the state capital and a good security system involving surveillance cameras in the buildings could help bring such crime down substantially.

"We have stepped up security outside all banks where men in uniform and plain clothes are keeping a close eye on it. Similar measures have also been taken to protect ATM customers who are routinely targeted by criminals familiar with the area," officials said.
