Villagers Lynch Killers in Bakhtiarpur

Patna: March 3, 2008

In yet another example of mob justice in Bihar, villagers in Bakhtiarpur on Monday afternoon chased and killed two criminals who were fleeing after committing a murder in Tekbigaha village causing tension in the region.

As reported, Mohammed Aslam and Mohammed Azhar, along with a third person, all residents of Chakdaulat village, were going on their motorcycle to Tekbigaha village to finalize a land deal. The three were also carrying a rifle with them.

When they reached Tekbigaha village, they stopped by a shop where they engaged in an altercation with the 25-year old shop-owner Uma Shankar. Before long, the men on motorcycle pulled their rifle and shot dead Uma Shankar and fled.

People in the area, however, gave a chase to the fleeing killers and after catching up with them, dragged them from their motorcycle and beat them to a pulp before snatching their rifle and shooting Aslam and Azhar to death.

The third man, however, managed to escape.

The police seized the body of all three persons and sent them for autopsies.

Senior police officials including Patna District Magistrate Dr. B. Rajendra, IG Rajwardhan Sharma, DIG Sunil Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan and others were camping in the area to diffuse any tension.
