CM Writes to PM to Intervene in Maharashtra Affairs
Patna: March 4, 2008
In a letter written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar once again asked him to intervene in Maharashtra affairs where people from Bihar and other north Indian states were being victimized by the thugs of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray.
Asking the Prime Minister to ensure the safety of Biharis in Maharashtra, Kumar said the north Indians, afraid for their and their family members' lives, were escaping from the nation's finance capital as violence against them continued unabated.
The Chief Minister, in his letter, said it was appalling that no action was being taken against those who were taking law in their hands in Maharashtra while people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh continued to live in fear and terror unleashed by the Sena operatives.
"The Maharashtra government has utterly failed in protecting the Biharis and despite my appeal to the Maharashtra Chief Minister on February 6, nothing has been done in this regard," Kumar is said to have written in his letter to the Prime Minister.
