Protest against Arrest of Junk Dealer's Son

Patna: March 4, 2008

People on Exhibition Road in Patna on Tuesday came out on the street in protest against the arrest of the son of a junk dealer on charges of receiving stolen products and being a part of a gang of thieves in the state capital.

As per the report, the Kadam Kuan police arrested Noor Alam, the son of a junk dealer, after a man already in police custody spilled the beans on him alleging him to be a partner in crime.

The incident caused uproar within the Muslim community who, shouting anti-police slogans, burnt their effigies and demanded immediate release of Noor Alam saying he was framed by the police.

Threatening to launch an agitation, Muslims under the banner of Union Muslim League blocked the road and demanded dismissal of criminal case against Alam.

Kadam Kuan Assistant station in-charge Alok Kumar, however, insisted that Alam was part of the gang and bought and sold stolen auto parts.
