IGIMS Medical School to Start Operating Soon

Patna: March 5, 2008

The state government on Wednesday, by approving the recruitment of 91 teachers, cleared the way for the opening of a medical school at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna with Rs. 6.54 crore earmarked for the salaries of the teaching staff.

A total of 244 posts have been created for the medical college that would allow it to start operating from this year, officials said.

Besides the appointment of 91 teachers, the government has also made rooms for 67 para-medical staff, 50 Grade-III employees and 35 Grade-IV employees.

The medical school would accommodate 100 students and would consist of several departments including anatomy, physiology, bio-chemistry, Pharmacology, microbiology, forensic medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, pediatrics, eye, ENT, radiotherapy, dental, physical medicine and rehabilitation.
