Swami Sahajanand Saraswati's Birth Anniversary Observed
Patna: March 5, 2008
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with other Bihar leaders at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna, placed garland on the picture of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati, the architect of the farmers' movement, to mark his 119th birth anniversary on Wednesday.
Among others who also attended the event included Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramashray Prasad Singh, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Anil Kumar, legislators Prof. Aslam Azaad, Sanjay Singh, and Dr. Mahachandra Prasad Singh.
Meanwhile, at a separate event in honor of Swami Sahajanand at IIBM hall, a seminar on the economic backwardness of farmers was organized to discuss ways to extricate them from their existing predicament.
State Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh said the Nitish government was committed to the cause of Bihar farmers as was recently displayed in a meeting between the Chief Minister and farmers' representatives that lasted nearly nine hours.
"Ironically, the UPA government, despite tall talks about helping the farmers, has failed to take their problems seriously resulting in further aggravation of their quandary," said the Agriculture Minister.
