Legislators Arrive at Bihar Assembly on Bullock Cart
Patna: March 6, 2008
Bihar Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary, following the arrival of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders on a bullock-cart to make a political point against the 'NDA government's anti-farmers policies', banned the entry of any vehicle drawn by any animal in the Assembly campus calling it an insult to the House.
"Today they are coming in a bullock-cart, tomorrow they will use donkeys to make their point. This is totally absurd and will not be tolerated in future," Chowdhary said on Thursday.
He also put a ban on legislators arriving in rickshaws saying they would have to get off at the gate near Shaheed Smarak where a car would be waiting for them to bring them to the Assembly.
Earlier, RJD MLA Rajesh Singh carrying sugarcanes arrived at the Assembly in a bullock-cart to demand justice for the sugarcane growers in Bihar. He was joined by other RJD leaders who chanted anti-government slogans calling it anti-farmers and pro-capitalists.
Security officials tried to block their entry but the RJD leaders forced their way inside the campus where they continued their anti-NDA chants.
