Fire at Cotton Warehouse Destroys Property over Rs. 1 lakh

Patna: March 10, 2008

Fire at Cotton Warehouse. Photo by Shashi UttamA fire presumably caused by a portable power generator on Monday afternoon damaged a cotton godown in Raja Bazaar under Shastrinagar police station in Patna destroying property worth over Rs. 1 lakh.

As reported, the incident occurred behind the Tirupati Service Station around noon when a spark from the power generator being used hit a bale of cottons igniting a big fire within the premises.

Within minutes more than three dozen cotton bales were on fire and flames were touching the ceiling causing a panic in the neighborhood, particularly the store's proximity to a petrol pump.

Fire tenders were summoned and with the assistance of a number of good Samaritans who used buckets to douse the flames, the situation was brought under control without further damage.

Officials are investigating the case.
