Lok Sabha Issues Show Cause Notice to Bal Thackeray
Patna: March 12, 2008
Amid growing protest from the Bihar Members of Parliament, the Lok Sabha secretariat on Wednesday sent out a notice to Shiv Sena kingpin Bal Thackeray asking him to explain his insulting remarks against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan and other MPs from Bihar in his editorial in the party magazine 'Saamna'.
Reports said that Thackeray, who has set out with his scorched-earth anti-Bihar agenda in an obvious attempt to dominate his own nephew and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray to grab Marathi votes, was given a week's time to respond as to why his comments should not be treated as a case of privilege against the MPs before Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee took any action against him.
Thackeray, in the latest issue of party propaganda tool 'Saamna', had blasted leaders from Bihar calling them criminals and 'not deserving to be in the Parliament'. He also spoke against Biharis and other North Indians living in Mumbai calling them 'sick' and 'having bad influence on the Maharashtra culture'.
Earlier, RJD MP Devendra Prasad Yadav and Janata Dal (U) MP Prabhunath Singh had moved a privilege motion against the Shiv Sena chief.
