Thakur, Shivanand Tiwari Nominated for Rajya Sabha
Patna: March 12, 2008
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday fielded former Union Minister Dr. C. P. Thakur for the Rajya Sabha seat thus putting an end to all speculation regarding the candidacy of film star and former Union Health Minister Shatrughan Sinha who failed to garner enough support within the party for the renewal of his Rajya Sabha seat.
The Janata Dal (U), on the other hand, named party national spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari, the state Planning Board Chairperson N. K. Singh, and Dr. Ejaz Ali as the candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls.
After the announcement of his candidacy, Singh resigned from his Planning Board and Nalanda district 20-point committee posts, reports said.
Meanwhile, Thakur who arrived in Patna from Delhi by the Indian Airlines Flight 809 on Wednesday was given a warm welcome by party activists and his supporters who greeted him with 'band-baja' at the airport.
Thakur, however, ducked a question on the candidacy of Shatrughan Sinha, saying it was the party's decision to nominate him and he had nothing to do with Sinha's exclusion.
