Prem Gupta is RJD Rajya Sabha Nominee
Patna: March 13, 2008
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Thursday announced the name of Prem Gupta, the incumbent Union Minister for Company Affairs, for the Rajya Sabha seat while also announcing its support for the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) nominee Sabir Ali.
Both candidates have the blessings of the UPA as well as the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, RJD state president Abdul Bari Siddiqui said at a press conference at Bihar Assembly on Thursday.
Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for March 26.
Earlier, the NDA in Bihar announced the nomination of former Union Health Minister Dr. C. P. Thakur for the Rajya Sabha seat rejecting the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh's appeal for the re-nomination of the sitting MP and former film star Shatrughan Sinha.
Sources in BJP said Shatrughan Sinha sealed his fate when he refused to campaign for the NDA leaders in Bihar during the last Assembly elections in 2005. His frequent star tantrum also did not go down well with the grassroots BJP activists who felt Sinha had yet to 'pay his dues' to the party that always believed in promoting proven, loyal crusaders.
