Candidates for the Rajya Sabha and Bihar Legislative Council in Patna on Friday filed their nomination papers prominent among them the former Union Minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr. C. P. Thakur, former Union Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Premchand Gupta, and Janata Dal (U) national spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari.
Others who also filed their nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat included former state Planning Board Vice Chairperson Nand Kishore Singh, Janata Dal (U) leader Ejaz Ali.
For the state Legislative Council, those who filed their papers included Mohammed Harun Rashid, Hira Prasad Bind, Satish Kumar, Ramdhani Singh, BJP leaders Giriraj Singh and Kameshwar Chaupal, and RJD candidates Tanweer Hasan and Badshah Prasad Azaad.
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) nominee Sabir Ali and Congress candidate Jyoti, however, failed to file their papers in the lack of necessary documents. They would now complete the formalities on Saturday, officials said.
All the papers would be scrutinized on March 17 while the last date to withdraw any nomination is March 19.
Elections, if needed, would be held on March 26.
Prominent leaders from the NDA including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Building Construction Minister Monazir Hasan, BJP state president Radha Mohan Singh were present during the filing of the nomination papers.
