Gangster Killed in Bomb Blast in Motihari Jail

Patna: March 15, 2008

Notorious criminal Munna Singh with involvement in dozens of cases of murders, kidnapping, and extortion, was killed when rival gang members detonated two bombs inside the Motihari Jail premises and opened several rounds of fire on him on Saturday afternoon killing him on the spot.

As reported, Munna Singh was brought back from a local court. After completing the jail formalities, he stepped inside the jail premises when unidentified criminals lobbed two bombs at him and opened at least seven rounds of fire.

Munna Singh's body was blown away and his body riddled with three bullet holes.

Interestingly, just few hundred meters away at Motihari Gandhi Maidan, Governor of Bihar R. S. Gavai was attending the Champaran Cultural Festival when the blasts went off forcing Motihari District Magistrate Jeevan Kumar Sinha and other senior police officials to rush to the jail.

Authorities are investigating how bombs and guns were smuggled inside the prison campus without being detected by the officials.

"The incident is certainly going to cost some officials their jobs," the DM said.
